Vivian Jepkemoi Cheruiyot was nicknamed the Pocket Rocket for her size and her finish. She first ran at a world championship at fifteen.
At the London Olympics in 2012 she took silver over 10,000 metres and bronze over 5,000. At Rio in 2016 she reversed it, winning the 5,000 metres in an Olympic record and taking silver over 10,000 — the gold coming at the end of a race she ran from the back of the field. She was world champion over 5,000 metres in 2009 and 2011 and over 10,000 metres in 2011 and 2015, and won the world cross country title in 2011.
She then moved to the road and won the London Marathon in 2018 at her second attempt at the distance, which very few track runners of that quality manage.
