He built Equity from a failing building society into a bank of fourteen million customers by serving the people other banks would not open accounts for.

James Mwangi is a Kenyan accountant and banker, group managing director and chief executive of Equity Group Holdings, a banking group with over fourteen million customers.

Under him Equity expanded into Uganda, South Sudan, Rwanda, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo. He received the Oslo Business for Peace Award in 2020 and was named among the top fifty chief executives in the world in 2019.
